Is it better to get a jersey with the pockets on the sides or one with
pockets in the front? I have seen recumbent jerseys offered in both styles
and wondered what most people prefer.
thanks,

Pat,
the ones with pockets on the side are the best when on a bent. I've used
them for years and they are available from many local bike shops that deal
with bents.

Bill

Funny you should ask, just an hour agoI received my order for a recumbent
shirt from Kucharik at
The specific items I ordered were
http://www.kucharik.com/images/Shorts/2000-02/Stars%20&%20Stripes%20Short.jpg
You can specify this with no padding in fact I believe its slightly cheaper
than what is listed on the web page

3 pockets on the front although I doubt I'll use them (No room on the
Baron), I just liked the graphics
I have another pair of shorts from them and 2 other shirts and the product
appears to be excellent quality, also the price is very reasonable compared
to the Pearl or Hind shorts I also have.
I can't recommend them enough!

I forgot to mention I also have a recumbent shirt with pockets on the side
(forgot the brand), to be honest I couldn't tell you which is better because
I never use the pockets in either style shirt but if I did I'd likely go for
the side pockets only because I'd think it would be more comfortable with my
riding position (almost horizontal)

Mark, you can tell I am new at this, but why would I need padding in the
shorts while riding a recumbent?

You don't! But if you wear baggies you might want to consider a pair of
tight shorts underneath, in case of bees.

You usually don't but in many cases the manufacturers will only make shorts
with padding and you end up cutting that out which is a bit tedious and time
consuming

I use Coumbia Kiaking or conoeing shorts. Very Comfortable. Inner liner
and dry very quickly. Installed a small cord to keep them closed so
bugs don't enter while riding.

I wear regular jerseys with pockets in back. A gel flask or energy bar can
be placed enough to the side it isn't a bother. But honestly, I'll wear a
tank-top or t-shirt if the mood suits me.
I also wear padded shorts on occasion, because I have them.

Had my first ride using the Kucharik shorts and shirt, both were excellent
Several weeks ago I posted that I visited John Kucharik's store and
brought both jerseys and shorts. The shorts are made of lycra so
there is no need to worry about bees flying up your crotch! ;^)} The
padding in the shorts goes higher up than in upwrong [downwrong?]
shorts and is for comfort on long rides - the centuries and double
centuries that make cripples out of upwrong riders.
I found John Kucharik's better made and less expensive than the other
brands.

I wear whatever I have handy or have on at the moment. Anything I need to carry goes into a small backpack which hangs over the back of the seat. A small inconvenience since you have to stop to get to it. That could be good though. Since you can't fiddle around trying to find things you can concentrate on the road in front. We do have a problem with yellow jackets and wasps here in Ohio. Those little buggers can sting through 1/4" boiler plate! A layer of lycra doesn't even slow them down! Fortunately I've never encountered any while biking. Most of my encounters have been either by getting too close to nests accidentally or during nest eradication.

Cycling clothing is for some about fashion. For me its about function
(comfort). Good cycling clothing is a must for me for any ride. However for
recumbenting I use TYR Jammer swimming trunks. They wick away the moisture
and never have that "[censored] on your pants look". Its summer here and ten
minutes on my ride in street clothing and I could wring out a few ounces of
sweat from my jocky shorts. Cotton is [censored] for athletics and polyester
blends are worse. Kucharik's jerseys are great and wisk away mosture as well
as most coolmax type fabrics.

I Like the Kucharik jerseys, too. When riding a hardshell seat, I find
I can still reach a Hammer Gel flask in the rear pockets of DF jerseys
and the flask is outside the edge of the seat.
John K. will ship most his of regular cycling shorts, bibs, tights,
skinsuits, etc. without the pad at the regular price. I have worn his
products for many yeasrs and they last a long time. I recently have
worn cycling shorts with pad on both my Lightning Pahntom and the
T-Bone and the pad didn't bother me. I also wear some of the higher
end Performance shorts and like them , also.
