Felt bikes

I too am looking at Felt and Trek, so this topic is of interest to me as well. Wish I could answer, but all I can offer is a second on the question..

I bought a Felt F50 early this spring and I made the right choice. I've got a number of friends riding F15's, F35's, F45's, and F70's and not a one of them has had a problem with their frame. The frame is even light enough to justify and upgrade or two. I will eventually be converting mine to a double as a reward for losing a few more pounds and keeping them off through the winter. If I don't use them, I'm sure I'll find someone will want the one year old Ultegra derailleurs and

I probably could've done just as well with a number of other brands that are built sort of long and low. However, I have an older blue Cosmos wheelset that I prefer to use on marginal road surfaces, and I insisted that whatever I bought didn't look wierd with the blue wheels. The Felt goes beyond not looking wierd, it looks rad.

The geometry is very stable at high speeds and with the Cosmos wheelset, the bike feels like it's on rails. However, after a half-dozen rides on the R540 wheels, I sold them to a friend and upgraded to Ksyrium Elites. Although fast on the flats, they weren't all that laterally rigid. I probably have a low tolerance for a bike wandering on the twisty canyon roads around here too. The Ksyriums are just a bit stiffer and keep me within my comfort zone.

Looked at the F45 and F50 a while back and was very impressed with their relative value and the overall feel of the bikes. Ended up purchasing something else, primarily scared off by the R540's on the F50, but the F45 was a close runner up.

Several club riders here have Felts and I haven't heard of any problems or complaints at all. If you like the bike, I wouldn't worry about the warranty or the life of Felt frames in comparison to others. The "lifetime" warranties that I've read cover only manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship, not "wear and tear" or "fatigue failure" of the frames.

Now the decision will probably be whether to buy one now as they go on sale, or wait for the new model year to see what will be offered. It looks like the F50 is not in stock at any of the shops in my area (Athens, GA) anyway.
