Could Jan Attack Tomorrow?

Just a fantasy... He's a little over 2 minutes behind Basso and a place on the podium. Basso looks used up. Ullrich is not a bad one-day racer. Armstrong can't allow a huge break with Jan in it. It's a long stage. And Lance got a taste of circuit racing in Georgia a couple of months ago, and won. Hmm. I can dream, can't I? RichC

Just a fantasy...
He's a little over 2 minutes behind Basso and a place on the podium. Basso
looks used up. Ullrich is not a bad one-day racer. Armstrong can't allow a
huge break with Jan in it. It's a long stage. And Lance got a taste of
circuit racing in Georgia a couple of months ago, and won.

That's not a fantasy. That's a drunken fantasy. If Ullrich tried something
like that, he'd be dealt with more harshly than Simeoni.

It's been done. Greg and Figgy but that's partly because it was a TT. But if
8 seconds were at stake, then yes, but otherwise no. Last day is usually a
fun day where the riders have resigned and stroll into Paris.

That's what Zoetemelk did in 1979 I believe, Hinault caught up with
him and beat him in a two man break!

That's what Zoetemelk did in 1979 I believe, Hinault caught up with
him and beat him in a two man break!

That is right, but CSC would chase anything with stongmen like Julich and Voight (if Voight isn't fearing for his life). Jan attacking Basso would also be like Jan attacking Kloden which would be in terribly poor taste. The only dreamer's chance would be an almost organized break where all the top 4 join the break. If those 4 went out then they would be super strong. I don't think that will happen, but Lance doesn;t have a road stage win in this stretch of Tours. Overall, it has no chance of happening, but any attack will be a group effort for the stage win, not an attempt to move up on GC.
