I'm new to biking. I've got an old Schwinn, but many members have said to toss it and by a better bike. I've ended up bidding on a Specialized Allez older bike, on ebay, and now have the byers remorse.
Can anybody help me with what they think about this bike. The seller has almost no idea about technicalities.
It's an Allez, aluminum frame with shifters incorporated with the break levers, for 21 gears. That's all I know at the moment, waiting to find out shipping info. Check the pictures. I'll appreciate any further info if anybody recognizes the bike to let me know the year, gear info, and such. How much would you've paid for it? Thank you very much.

You didn't ask what year it was? What size is the bike? How much did you pay for it? What's the eBay link???

It's old 7 speed junk. If you are lucky, maybe it will fit and everything will work.I would have paid nothing for it. You should have asked the questions first,and you would likely to be better off just bailing on the deal.
Was that a joke? It would run 230 with shipping... expensive kickstand
You didn't get buggered too bad if it fits and everything works,and the frame isn't ginked or something. The kickstand is the real clincher. Gotta be worth at least $1.50, and hopefully the frame isn't hosed where it's attached.Don't make the mistake of now throwing money at 'upgrades'.

the kick stand is probably the only thing that is anygood... 230$ is WAYYYYYYYYYYY to expensive...i would bail.... esp cuz he never told you the details... you can get a new road bike frame for that much and then build it up..

Bottom line:
Best case scenario - with some luck you might get your $230.00 worth, but trying to get a good bike for that price is a bit unrealistic - even on Ebay! (that was a joke - I don't consider ebay to be a good source of bikes...) If you enjoy riding this bike, then great, and I guess you should leave it at that, because I don't think anyone would agree that this was a good way to acquire a bike.
Worst case you spent 230.00 and got something that you won't want to ride - too bad, but chalk it up to experience and go get a new bike from a good bike shop. BTW, what is your budget for buying a bike? Don't know? Better figure that out first, and work from there.

Hooey...There are good bike deals on ebay.You just have to know what you are doing and what to look for or not look for, as well as what things are worth. It ain't for novices.

🙁 This is a very old bike Romulus. Seven speed drivetrains were updated to eight speed in the early nineties, if not earlier. It does have some upgrades in the shifters and who knows what else. I don't know how much of an upgrade you should consider this bike. I've seen better for sale privately for under $100. Spend what you can and take your time. You'll thank yourself over time with getting something as close to your dream bike as possible, not to mention a better resale value.

:pThis was my first time in this forum! I can see where the overall attitude of the participants of this subject is at. Would've been fun without boudreaux! Enjoy your lives! Keep riding! And remember...everytime you pass a supercycle on your GaryFisher or Trek, know that they're the bikes that created the industry and allow all the R&D money to be available for the 3 pound road frames and sub 23 pound full-suspension bikes. I ended up bailing on it... for now, yesterday, I took apart an old Schwinn road bike, much heavier (what was that 5 to 10 times, he he he), but save my money for more (and it's got only like 200 miles on it)... I'm sanding down the frame today, gotta repaint, and will be allright for cruising (and building those legs muscles - after that when you jump on a Trek 5900 it's like what, where's the bike, don't feel it...)
SO does anybody have a set of OLD friction downtube shifters (I'd like to switch them from the stem shifters to downtube) that they could donate? Thanks in advance... and keep on riding.
