  1. I went out last night for a very brief ride, about 6 miles to work off my dinner. At the end of my ride i had to ride down a half mile hill and managed to get some serious speed (45mph), but half way down cramp emerged in my left calf muscle due to really pedalling fast. Ive only ever once had cramp and that was while swimming on holiday when I was young, but when this happend on my bike last night it really took me by supprise. I was using look pedals and couldnt even manage to snap my foot out as it was acheing so much, i had to glide to the bottom of the hill then managed to come to a halt to sort myself out. This ever happend to you? Is cramp a regular occurance? I tell you it wasnt fun having cramp at 45mph, i felt asif i was going fall off or something.

  2. eat some bananas
you need the potassium in them
    potassium stops cramps

  3. This has happened to me before too and it was caused by dehydration. Be sure to drink plenty of liquids before any hard ride and preferably about 1 hour before. It also may be a good idea to drink something with electrolytes.

Aslo as TechJD suggested you may have also had a potassium deficiency.

In addition to the above suggestions, try to stretch after rides. Riding tends to tighten your muscles up.

  5. even know it was a short ride you were most likely dehydrated throughout the day. For long rides to avoid potential cramps try poppin a couple of Tums in the middle of the ride.
