Helmet dangers

If you wish to carry on wearing one, you can fit mesh into all the gaps in
the helmet. A friend of mine has done this to stop the stinging insect
problem. Use old net curtain material, cut to slightly over-size of each
vent hole. Stick in place with Copydex (or similar) on the inside of the
helmet.

Or, do as I do, and don't wear the useless contraption.

That happend to me last October, an old drone with industrial strength
sting; I looked like Shrek for a few days afterwards. Still , ahem,
wear it.

In October? would workers still be about? all I know is it bloody hurt!

Apparently some helmets already come with mesh for that reason.

I've had a lot of bugs get in my helmet lately, not been stung yet though I've cringed each time at the possibility.

I know I shouldn't do this but.....

What if the number of cycling fatalities caused by cyclists losing control
because of insect invasion was equal to, or exceeded the number of lives
saved by helmets? Should helmets be redesigned to repel insects? If so,
would they invite bird attack?

If the Swamp Monster and Fat Eric had conjugal relations, would the
resulting offspring be not only utterly illogical, but large enough to sink
the British Isles?

(if you get the colour right) barrier to insects.

A hairnet or piece of stocking should work just fine. But don't go into
the bank without taking it off first.
