  1. I am going camping at Big Sur or 10 days and want to take my road bike
with me. Can someone recommend some good rides in the area?

I was last there 23 years ago, so the information I have is old, old,
old. Anyway, in those days there was mostly the coast road (Hwy 1)
and not much going into the mountains. I drove up Nacimiento Road
from (IIRC)just south of Lucia into the Hunter-Liggett Military
Reserve and that seemed like it would be a nice ride. From Lucia
there's a road into the Limekiln State Park, also.

From Posts, just south of Big Sur "proper," is the Coast Ridge Road
inland and Mule Canyon towards the sea, but I never got to check those
out so I don't know how rideable they are.

Between Bug Sur and Posts is the Pfeiffer State Park, which looks to
    have a road.

Carmel probably offers some nice rides, too. Is Nepenthe still in
    business?

  3. Nepenthe was there last spring. I assume it's still there. An amazing view.

I'm doing the same in a few weeks and saw this link. It's got some
    decent tips.

There are maps for the Big Sur century ride here: www.bigsurride.com
This is a loop route including both the coast and the inland hills.
