I'm currently looking to buy some type of trials uni. As my budget is not what i would like it to be, (but it never is, is it?) I am looking to buy the nimbus trials. However, I am wondering if it would stand up to what I would like to do with it. I am not a truly extreme unicyclist, having only been riding for 6 months, but I have already done several drops such as picnic tables and the like. As I don't weigh much (140 lbs), I would probably put less stress on the uni, but I really don't know.
I believe the nimbus is a pretty good trials uni (I've never ridden one myself, but this is what I've heard), but if it doesn't have a splined hub you could bend it rather easily if you go off large drops. I would refer you to 'the reviews on unicycle.com' (http://tinyurl.com/yqqaw) for more information. From what I've read there it sounds like the cranks can bend to.
but another thing to remember is some advanced trials riders here have a diffrent view over what should be classed as "big" compeard to another person who who is at entry level. This can also refer to the turm "riding hard". Someone buying a entry level trials is not going to break the hub no matter how hard they ride (unless they actualy try to breake it).
So anyway in my oppinion the strengh dose not really matter to someone intrested in buying a enrty level uni because that is what its there for, to give people a taster of what a trials uni can do and will serve the perpose of what its build for.
Thanks juggler dude. That was pretty much what I wanted to know. I suppose if it could be broken by anything I could do to it, then it's pretty well worthless.
NImbus is pretty cool but i would go with 'This uni' (http://tinyurl.com/227g4) Its stronger than a nimbus an dyou can have it painted any color yo want.
It's a little heavier, but the wheel is stronger, and it has the same hub and crankset. You might want to order some beefy alloy pedals with it, but you can get those, and it's still cheaper than the trials.
The downside is in the tire. It cannot handle a 20X2.5, but other than that, it's real nice. A little more versatile, too.
I have the Nimbus trials, and I must say that I am fairly pleased with it. I bent the stock cranks on it by doing 4 foot gaps/drops. You might want to invest in a better pair of cranks (either black widows or some kind of splined hub/crank set). Overall, I like it. When you first start riding you may get some rub from the frame on your legs, though. Its not that bad, you learn how to avoid it. That and the black caps on the crown of the frame fall out frequently during falls. That can be fixed by welding some 3/4 inch metal slugs into the holes
i found the nimbus to be quite a good frame, although the components aren't that strong, and after a few 5ft drops and things like that, i had bent the cranks beyond repair. but once beefed up with a KH hub and crankset, it goes great. id recommend it
