I just learned to freemount last week. In fact it was also the first
time I got to try a giraffe. I guess the first thing was to learn to
ride. For me to mount (not free) I'd stand on a counter top about three
and a half feet off the ground. From there, it was just a matter of
getting on.
After a while, I thought I'd try some free mounting. At first, it
seemed impossible, but after a few hundred tries nailed one. Then
another. Then another.
I found the secret was to start with the pedals in the horizontal
position with the right pedal further from me.
I'd take a quick two steps and jump, catching the right pedal when it is
closest to me.
Then, it's just a matter of getting myself on the seat and my left foot
on the left pedal.
The key was to time the jump and to jump as high as I could
I have a few videos of my failed attempts and one of a successful one.
There are also a few pics of the giraffe and other cool stuff. I think
you need quicktime to view the videos.
Hope that helps,
Daniel
