specifically so you can extend your foul weather radius?
Well, I don't have a "road" (racing) bike. I do most of my recreational
riding on my touring bike.
That said, I've got handlebar bags on almost every bike I own. They
take care of rain gear stowage, plus snacks, maps, tools, extra clothes,
and most anything else I might want to carry. (Camera, notepad,
binoculars, rocks...)
Oddly, the touring bike is the only one _without_ a rear rack. I've got
them on my commuter, my mountain bike, our tandem, & the folder. Oh, I
forgot - the seldom-used antique is naked. No bags, no racks.
One riding buddy of mine was notorious for showing up for a ride on his
new racing bike, then asking others (usually me) to carry his jacket.
Eventually, the ribbing he endured got him to install at least a seat
bag. Funny thing is, his belly weighed many times what a rack would!
