There's not many reasons for them to cheer for their countrymen this year... OTOH I noticed many Basque coloured people cheering for every rider including Lance on his way up to the finish.

Interesting sidenote. When Lance flatted, the guys from RAI said that the spectators watching the giant screen at the finish cheered. Lame!
I think the fans are awesome to Lance. They cheer him like crazy. Not sure the riders would get as good of a welcome in the US. Judging by the way some of the foreign golfers are treated when they play here.

The only foreign golfer who gets the razzz here is Montgomery and he deserves it for the way he acted during the Ryder Cup. Now they call him Mrs. Doubtfire.

No, that is not lame when you remember their hero lost quite a bit of time from a few mishaps. Why would they not be glad to see luck now going back in Mayo's direction (if Lance fell back enough to make a differnce)?
Who cares what the "Fans" (all nationalities) say or cheer about, they all have big mouths and as they have shown on most occasions they act like horses-asses. Fortunetely, the riders do not get caught up in it and let their riding do their talking.
Yeah, and Sergio deserves it in last years US Open. That was a disgrace.

It's unsportsmanlike to cheer when the other guy has a problem. You cheer when your guy or team or whatever does something well.
In any case, I'm still impressed (fingers crossed) with how they go through the crowds every year and problems are so rare.
