  1. Hi,

For years I have had mountain bikes but i have now decided that I want to
get a reasonable racing bike - where should I start - budget wise I would
probably look for a second hand for about £200.00.(GBP)

I am 5ft 7inch (1.7Mtrs) what size frame do you think I should aim for.?
How many gears is recommended ?
What components should I be looking out for ?

    Thanks

    DJ

This group is more about talking about other people racing their bikes. A
good place for the kind of info you would like is:

    <http://www.sheldonbrown.com/beginners/index.html>

Visit a couple of bike shops as well.

  3. Fair comment !

Go to a good local bike shop and see what they have for entry level road
bikes. There are some good values, especially in the UK. Go online and
check out Saint John Street Cycles at
http://www.sjscycles.com and give a look to Geoffrey Butler Cycles at
    http://www.gbcycles.co.uk
Since you're in the UK, you might also pick up a copy of the current Cycling
Plus magazine at your local news dealer.

    Enjoy your ride!

  5. You might also get some good advice from the uk.rec.cycling newsgroup.

  6. Just your height isn't a complete rule for bike sizing. By my height I
should be riding a standard 57, but I have short legs and a long torso and
so needed one with a longer top tube, and went with a custom ride. Bottom
line: test ride everything you can find....
