  1. I'm personally pulling for Lance to win his 6th, but I'm not gonna
defend his big mouth...he can be really arrogant at times. But before
we finish the job of castrating him for saying that he let Basso win
I'd like to hear the full interview....if it exists.

Lance often times seems to be foggy headed in his interviews after a
stage. It's possible that he didn't mean to say what actually came
out of his mouth. If he did though, it was a pretty classless
    statement.

It was already in VeloNews. He didn't let Basso win, Basso took it from
    him.

I agree with what you've said. Based on his other statement that Basso was
the strongest, I wouldn't be surprised if that quote was translated, then
translated back to english. I think the two of them worked together to
establish a gap over the other riders and Lance's comments may have been to
the effect of being glad to work with Ivan as part of the decisive move
(helping him get the stage win).

Then again, he might just be an [censored].

Read the article...I'd like to hear the interview though.

It did look to me as if Lance was trying his damned best to stay on
Basso's wheel at the end there, and hardly as if he was conceeding the
    win.

The last guy he said he let win, offed himself this year with a crack
    pipe.

You are correct. These guys are good buddies. Basso's mom has cancer, and
Lance is helping them (for obvious reasons).

  7. Come On Guys!

Lance's goal was to gain as much time as possible, I am sure this is
what he was doing versus trying to win the stage. I am sure he worked
to gain GC time. He couldn't care whether he wins the stage or nor,
if he had wanted to win the stage he could have. Sure he may have
given his all in the lunge to the finish.

What happened to all the people saying how weak Armstrong looked and
how strong Ullrich was? What a bunch of idiots?

  8. That's [censored]. First place was worth a 20 sec time bonus. Second was worth
12 secs. While not a huge amount of time, he wanted to put as much time as
possible on his "main" rivals. If he could have taken the stage, he would
have. Also, Lance didn't let up at all. It looked to me as if Lance
    couldn' come around Basso.

Can Basso time-trial? If so, he might be Lance's real competition this
    tour!

It may be interesting. He was the stongest rider today for certain. Lance
couldn't beat him even if he says he gave it to him IMHO. Lance looked more
tired than Basso. There faces told it all at the finish line.

Lance can be very careful about what comes out of his mouthy when he wants
to. It was one of the lance chronicles, I think when the sponsorship was
being passed to Discovery Channel, when he was asked in effect, "Are you
prepared to say you have never used performance enhancing drugs at all at
any time in your career?" Lance's reply was a carefully worded present
tense, "We do not use performance enhancing drugs." He didn't answer the
    question.
