There have been two more: red (intermediate sprints) and conbiné. I
don't think most combatative or best team ever had a jersey. There were
yellow caps for best team.

Most combatative gets to wear a red number instead of black, I think. Not sure
if the best team gets to wear something distinctive (yellow socks)?

David Millar had the Yellow, Points and Young Rider on the Prologue in
2000
Eddy Merckx had multiples several times and one year took Yellow,
Points and Mountains.

Remember when it was called the "Catch" sprints jersey? The sponsor was an
insect control company named "Catch" IIRC... They also had a cool publicity
caravan vehicle. It was a huge bug and looked cool.

Yeah, that was the shortest lived AKAIK, sponsored for a few short years by
Toshiba.

Nope. Most combative is relatively new and is not promoted the way the other
prizes are (does it even have a sponsor like the other prizes?)

Fignon had them all for a several days I think in 1983 and or 1984 (I can't
recall) and won both his Tours as a "young rider".

Had the "young rider" white jersey existed, Eddy would have won that as
well in 1969, when he won all three other major jerseys. He probably
would have won the combativity classification too; did they have the red
jersey back then, or did he win every possible prize that year?
I also hear he ate more than his share at the continental breakfast
buffets,

He placed poorly in the Lantere Rouge competition.

Thought the red number was worn by the "Lantern Rouge". Not checked the
rules this year so it may have changed.
The Combatative recepient is chosen each day by Bernard Hinault ( According
to Mike Smith on Eurosport)

Just Checked and you are correct the Red number is the combativity award
holder.

No prize for that!
The Giro d'Italia calls the same placing "maglia nera" (black jersey).
The punch-line is that there really used to be a black jersey awarded!
