    Seriously!

If Armstrong wins his 6th this year, he will certainly be tempted to
go for a 7th. I doubt that he is looking forward to retirement.
Armstrong seems to like the structure and sense of control that goes
    with being an elite cyclist.

None of the other 5 time TdF winners-- Anquetil, Merckx, Hinault,
or Indurain--opted to retire from competing in the TdF while they were
on top as reigning champions. They each decided to go for a 6th Yellow
    Jersey, and they each failed.

Hinault's case is somewhat interesting, in that technically, he wasn't
the team leader in his final year. He was ostensibly riding in support
of Lemond in the 1986 Tour.

Merckx had the best chance, but he was injured by a rabbit punch to
    the kidneys in 1975.

Of course, by NOT competing in the TdF next year, Armstrong can
then have the option to compete in events that he has heretofore
eschewed, such as the Giro d'Italia.
