Pettachi is definately bad ass, and as much as I have liked Cipo over the
years, the torch does seem to have passed, the Tour should be interesting as
long as Cipo is healthy and fit and his train is working, it could be a good
battle in the sprint stages. As classy as Cipo is, I look for him to somehow
cerimoniously (sp) pass the torch to Ale Jet at some point during the tour.
On another note Robbie McWhiner today left the Giro to prep for the tour
saying " Petacchi is beatable" to which I would respond, "THEN BEAT HIM"

The only question I have about Petacchi is the level of competition he is
sprinting against, seems to me that he's competing with quite a few once
greats, a batch of legends in their own minds,, and a few decent younger
riders. I don't see anyone beating him regularly soon, but I think the level of
competition isn't what Cipo faced for years.

He's got the speed, but does he have it when there are other sprinters almost
as fast throwing elbows and leaning on him? Great sprinters have a whole lot
more guts than brains to go with their speed. Anybody with a little sense
wouldn't be doing what they do.
At least McWhiner is gone for now. I'm sure he'll cause his usual [censored] at the
Tour though.

It seemed last year at the Tour tht he was fast enough to ride away from
the elbowing and leaning (which seemed to be Robbie and Badens part of
the game). Wonder what would have happened if he had been ablee to stay
in and compete as things got later in the race and guys got more tired
and as a consequence more "sloppy"? Perhaps this year we can find out.

No:-( I haven't been able to watch the Giro on TV this year, and
haven't bothered taping it (I'm too curious about the results and peek
from the office:-)

That was quite a ride though. I think it would be cool to see more
stages like that one... those are in some ways even better than the
high mountain stages, as they are so unpredictable. Much as Petacchi
is a great sprinter, I'd certainly rather see the hilly stages than
yet another sprint finish.

Taping is the best. A little discipline at work lets you skip all the
commercials at home.

And this Giro, taping the last 20 minutes of 90% of the stages has
worked really well for me.

It's getting hard to sustain the blackout these days during the Tour.
The Lance thing has gotten big enough that people who don't care
anything about bike racing still ruin the suspence for you.

I'm looking forward to the Belgian stages at the Tour for just that
reason... One can always hope.
