Giro Categories ?

I'm wondering what they'll dig up for the TdF this year. The extra
classifications make the Giro interesting. Last year the TdF featured
a Centinaire (best finish time to the original points of the 1903 TdF)
prize, but I don't expect that this year. Super Team looks like team
that accumulates the most points, which I think would be good for the
TdF.

Good one, La Gazzettta's english language page has a link to the Giro
rules, they are, however, in French.... I think they cover all the
various contest within the Giro

ciclamino is the points (purple jersey) competition. There's also a
most combative ie most attacking rider. Of course Mountains (green) and
the Pink Shirt.....

This one I do know - it's a condensed points classification. Riders get
points only if they finish in the top 3 on any given stage, with a
distribution of 4/2/1.

So Petacchi's 4 wins and 1 runner-up position leave him with 18 points,
Cunego's 2 wins and 1 runner-up position put him in second place with 10
points, and Pollack's three runner-ups and one third-place leave him third
with 7 points. Probably the simplest of all the competitions, in fact, with
no screwy modifiers or illogical bonuses.

Sonarrat explained the Azzurri d'Italia classification. I've never
understood why it's used - it's a bit redundant. Also the Combativity
classification is a cross between the points and the "normal" most combative
rider classification where you get points for attacking a lot but not
winning. I don't think the Giro would lose much if either of these
classifications (which don't have jerseys) were scrapped. Give the money to
the rest! But then again, I'm not Italian so I'm not truly imbued with Giro
fever.

The Fair Play classification is cool though. Teams accumulate points
depending on how much they've been fined for infractions. The team with the
lowest points score wins.

The antithesis would be the McEwen Classification, accumulate points for
the [censored] you try to get away with and your team doesn't get invited back
next year.

Shoulda looked at who was placing in that one I woould have retracted
my guess. I thought that the Giro Point Class was pretty straight
forward as well, unlike the Tour where you can theoretically win it with
out ever winning a stage.....
