Simply amazing. It's just too bad that for most of her career there was no
one even in her league. I like to think about what a GT between her and Beryl
Burton with both in their prime would've looked like. I think it'd be a hell of
a show.

However, when I think of BB, I think of a time trialist more than a climber.
I don't know how well BB could climb. Longo is/was a very well rounded
rider.

If you could quantify her intensity and focus, I wonder how it would compare
to Merckx, Armstrong? The comparative lack of depth of top riders may work
in her favor.

Logo is so well rounded that I'm not sure if BB could take enough out of her
in the TT and intermediate stages to hang on in the mountain. From pictures I
think Longo is a bit smaller too.

Van Moorsel strikes me as the female version of Jan. Incredible flashes of
brilliance and then a lot of very average stuff. I don't think either have the
razor focus and intensity that Longo and Merckx had. Starting to look like
Lance may have finally started losing his too.
It's still an awfully small group of people at this level though.

I actually think the mountains might have been BBs making as the thing
that stopped her winning more world RR champs was that the courses
were relatively short and too easy for her to get rid of the rest.
That and tactical niavety as the Worlds would usually be her only RR
of the year.

Of course you can't compare across generations (but what's stopped us
in the past!) but BB was a true "amateur" working full time and
bringing up a family.

Two incredible athletes whichever way you look at it with the common
denominator of the longevity of their careers. I wonder how many
career wins BB had - given her total dominance in UK TT's she
probably averaged one or two wins a week.

There was a cartoon I saw somewhere where a couple brought their baby
daughter back to the clinic where she was 'engineered' to have traits
from Albert Einstein and a super model. Turned out the kid looked like
Alfred and had the smarts of the super model. Probably a Quigmans..
