After a long endurance ride, the next day when I ride again I will experience a
decrease in the heart rate. Is this normal, a good thing, a bad thing?

This is often a symptom of over-training. Go easy or take a day off after a
long hard effort. -
Normal. Probably a combination of heart getting more efficient and/or you
getting slower.

Normal. I do the California AIDS Ride every year (now called AIDS LifeCycle)
which covers 585 miles in seven days. After day two, I can't get my heart

Trying to diagnose your situation is difficult. Heartrate alone is not a
good indicator, you may be experiencing a decrease in heart rate, what you
want also know is are you producing less power.low heart rate + decreased power = fatigue

The drop in heart rate descibed is said in medical textbooks to be due to
muscle glycogen depletion. -
