    How tight should a BB be?
    (precise and/or in layman's terms)
    I have a Trek 5500 with a Shimano Ultegra cartridge unit.

    From the Shimano service instructions for the Ultegra bottom bracket:
    bottom bracket tightening torque 50~70 Nm (435~608 in. lbs) 36~50 ft. lbs.
