I am hoping someone can help with some of the parts I need to locate for a Yeti Road Project I just picked up. Its a 1998 Yeti Road Project.
Some of the problems I have with specing the bike out are:
It has a 126 mm rear end on it. I am looking to spec the bike out with newer, higher quality, light products. Any suggestions on wheelsets? It looks like the dropouts accomodate a smaller than average axle (from what I can tell).
Can I fit a 9 speed drive train in there? Also, it has the shifter bosses on the downtube. Can I use modern (current) Shimano Dura Ace STI shifters and brake levers?

If the bike is steel, take it to a very competent LBS and have them cold set (easy for a skilled mechanic to do) the rear to 130mm spacing so you can use a current 9-speed drivetrain. You can use the Dura Ace STI shifter easily with the down tube cable stops that fit where the down tube shifters used to. I don't know about the axle size, but it should be easy to tell.
What you want to do is commonly, and easily done. Have fun!

I would be very careful about re-spacing an aluminum frame. I believe all the Yeti road projects were aluminum which doesn't take kindly to cold setting.
Some people have said that with the Trek 1100 (aluminum) they have just spread the rear triangle and slipped the wheel in as it only adds two mm to either side. A little tight but you may be able to do this with the Yeti too.
Also, yes to the STI's. You just need cable stops for the bosses - $5 - $10 and you are in business.
