  1. Anyone used the trick-looking cable sets by Nokon or Delta/Aztec?

I use the Nokon for brakes & shifting on my road bike. Not for any
reason other than corrosion due to my aluminum bike. Steel housings
bearing against the aluminum make for a corrosion site with the aluminum
    suffering most.

Since the housings are aluminum, no corrosion and a wonderful feel.
Shifting is very precise and braking is very strong. But the cost 🙁

I had the Nokon on two bikes. The shifting and braking feel was crisp and
concise, but the initial set up of the cables was long and involved. I can't
really justify the triple (over standard cables) cost of the Nokon, so I
    wouldn't buy them again

Oh yes, they are a PITA to install and don't tolerate dirt too well.
Since I ride in some situations like rain, I covered mine with some very
thin, clear heatshrink. It looks only slightly less shiny and is
slightly less flexible but it will last much longer since grit cannot
    get between the links.

The Nokon system keeps cables very clean since the liner runs
    full length.

I installed the Aztec shifter cables on my road bike. I found
installation to be somewhat more difficult than with regular cables
due to more pieces involved and very poor installation instructions
provided. I ended up having to re-install the rear setup a second
time due to Delta shorting me on the inner liner.

The improvement on the front derailleurs was dramatic: effort needed
to move from the small to large ring was markedly decreased and,
accordingly, shifts were quicker. I'm still messing around on the
rear setup; Delta's instructions don't mention a couple of
considerations that still are affecting me. So far, I can't say the
rear shifing has been dramatically improved.

    Mine are plastic coated...

Even the best plastic ends wear out rapidly, allowing the steel
compression member to bear agains the aluminum cable stop.

I haven't had this ever happen on cables I installed. Maybe I switch mine
out often enough that it doesn't matter (every 6 months or so). Maybe you
shift to an easier gear a lot?

Yes, my riding is in hilly sections where shifting is the standard. I
wear cogs uniformly so I guess I'm an equal opportunity cog user.
