I do not have a Shimano flight deck yet, but am ordering on for my new bike that is going to be set up with a "compact" road crank (50/34) and a 11-21. I know the Shimano FD gives the virtual cadence by comparing the current gear versus the speed. I assume the FD set up allows you to input chainring, wheel, and cassette sizes to do this.
Will it allow such chain ring choices such as a inner ring of 34 vs . the normal 39-42 and and outer 50 instead of a normal 52-53.

Yes. I used one on my Hetchins with a 50-28 double for a while, and the flight deck worked fine. I kinda miss it since I switched to Campagnolo Ergo shifters, but I do like the Campag shifters better.
