Record BB friction

I have a small problem with my Camp. Record BB. It runs fairly smootly
(but not as smootly as my Chorus or Centaur BB's) when not mounted on
the bike - BUT when I mounth it on the bike the friction is like 4-5
times as big.
Any suggestions??

You can try taking it apart and clean all the ball bearings and re
grease it.

Buy a Chorus or Centaur BB?

My personal choice would be to replace it with a Phil Wood BB.

Have the frameset BB shell threads chased then the right sdide of the shell
'faced' to make it parallel to the threads.

The Record and Chorus BBs are 102mm, the Centaur is 111mm and the brearings of
the Record and Chorus are the same, the spindle of Record lighter is all.

In your experience, what is the best tool currently manufactured to
accomplish this? I am in the market for one, it must have cutters that
will work well on Ti and money isn't an issue. I have been eying the
Chris King frame tools. Any input? TIA

I know what Peter will answer to this same as anybody else who has
worked with these tools: Campagnolo.

There are a number of similar tools that are _almost_ as good, but
certainly nothing better.

Chris King doesn't make anything for bottom brackets. If they did, I'm
sure it would be worth considering. Chris King is in some ways the
"American Campagnolo."

Many thanks, Sheldon. It was indeed the headset tool from Chris King I
was eying, and hoping they would release a BB tool when they finally
release their BB itself. I didn't know if it was considered to be
equal to the Campagnolo equivalent or not. I guess there's no escaping
the search for the more specialized of Campagnolo tools. I don't mind
spending the money for Things That Will Last.

I use Campagnolo tools, but those from Hozan and Cobra are good ones as well. I
think ti cutters are available.
