I need to replace the chainrings on an old Sakae crank- 110/74 BCD. It looks as if rings go from $10 to $30+ each. I can go to, say, Nashbar, and get a full set for under $30. Or go to the T.A. rings at Harris Cyclery and spend over $100.
Shift pins and ramps don't matter to me. If I pay three times the money, will i get three times or more life from the more expensive rings?
This is for road riding, commuting, day trips, and short tours.
Any experiences on aftermarket rings and their longevity welcome. Specific alloys to look for or avoid maybe? Brands? Thanks.

If you're going to spend $100, you might as well just get a whole new crankset.
