speedhub ready frames

    My commuting bike has a speedhub, which is a good thing, however I do
    find the torque arm a bit of an annoyance. The frame is pretty old and
    now has a few spot of rust and I'm thinking about rebuilding the bike
    around a new frame (either doing it myself or getting a bike shop to
    do it for me).

    I've noticed that a couple of people make frames specifically designed
    to take a speedhub without the need for the torque arm or seperate
    chain tensioner.

    Kinetics sell rotor frames:
    <http://www.kinetics.org.uk/html/rotor_frames.html> The rotor mission
    frame is for 700C wheels. Since I'd like to resuse my existing wheel
    this is the kind of thing I want. A quick google has failed to locate
    anyone else selling these frames in the UK (not that there's anything
    wrong with kinetics - it's just nice to check prices from a few
    suppliers).

    St John St/Thorn have a frame designed for a speedhub
    <http://www.sjscycles.com/images/otherimages/RavenBrochure2004_4.pdf>,
    but it's 26 inch wheels only - so not really what I want.

    Does anyone know of other frames availble for this purpose? The Rotor
    Mission looks like it might be suitable, but I'd like to know if
    there's anything else around.

    I'm vaguely interested, seeing as I've banjaxed the dropouts on my
    Nexus (7 speed) equipped bike by failing to do the nuts up adequately
    tightly. (With a 20cm spanner, the appropriate tightness is 'as hard
    as possible & then some'😉 I'll see how it goes along, but certainly
    the EBB and vertical dropout option looks nice.

    Doesn't appear to be complete however, since it doesn't mention the
    rotor frames I mentioned.

    It's a good frame. On-one do produce a road frame so it might be wrth=20
    asking them directly.

    check this site out for info about multispeed hubs, and frames and anything
    else a bit unusual. I doubt if you will find a better more informative shop
    anywhere in the world.

    good reputation... I'd like to go and try out some 'bents, and am sort
    of wondering when would be a good time to go. Is the shop usually busy,
    or is there usually time to talk and get advice?

    I've paid him a visit and currently have a seat on order from him. I've
    little to compare him to, but I was very impressed by my visit. He's
    attentive and ethusiastic which is all that is really required! I went
    on a Saturday afternoon and there were one or two other customers but
    they were after different things. I don't know if that was a normal day
    for Ben, but it seemed pretty quiet.

    He constructed a Bike for me about18 months ago when I wanted
    something a little different.

    Heinzmann motor one end, Rohloff the other. Heresy to most on here I
    know but it made recovering from a severe ankle injury more fun than
    physiotherapy.

    Always seemed to have time talk on phone or prompt replies by Email.

    Also gave me an excuse to go to Scotland to collect it and then drop
    in on some friends who live the highlands. Nice area to try out a new
    bike and go back to shop if any problems developed.No problems
    occurred however.

    When I visited there were one or two other customers in the shop, This
    was on a weekday. One was a serious cyclist perusing some machine the
    other was a Gran and Grandson who I suspect did not need such a
    specialist shop for what they were after.
    It is not a vast shop so I would recommend a phone call or Email
    first to see what he has available.
    It is fairly easy to find if you have a map of the Glasgow area.
    Just far enough out to be in a residential suburb and adjacent to a
    main road. The shop itself fronts onto a residential service road
    which gives a reasonably quiet road to test ride on..

    Agreed, email does seem to be hit and miss. Phone was pretty sucessful
    though.
