I used to think that Oxford was the home of the narrow cycle lane, you
know the sort of thing which has to have the double yellow lines across
the middle of the bicycle logo in the lane, because the lane is only
about twice the width of a set of no parkers. That and the lanes that
are narrowed at pinch points to make sure that the lane that isn't the
cycle lane can be kept wide enough. Somewhere recently, perhaps in
Wallingford really rather late on Sunday morning, there was a mandatory
cycle lane so narrow that there had to be a gap in the white line for
the cycle logo to sprawl out into the adjacent lane. What is the point
of a bicycle lane too narrow for a lane-sized picture of a bicycle?
