The one you need is the one that'll make you happiest. You obviously
want the shiniest one with the most functions so get that while you're
still in the mood to treat yourself.

I use this Sigma computer which has an optional cadence function with an
additional part. I like the locking mechanism which screws in rather than
slides in and after trying cordless a while ago I went back to cabled due to
spurious signals an such like. Some people don't like the rubber band
mounting , but I find it as good as any screw in ones.

I like to use a separate HRM (which I got from Aldi for 15 quid) as I can
wear it on my wrist for 5 a side and also I wear it in bed now and again to
check on my lowest BPM which you should measure before rising in the morning
(leave it!) It is 52 at the moment. Don't know if Aldi have them on offer
any more, but I'm going there tomorrow - if they have any left I'll let you
know.

It's a big wide world out there, and there's lots of flashing lights
and shiny metal to choose from. Please help!

Were it me, I should start with the Cateye Astrale. Has all the usual
functions plus cadence, and comes with a long wire as standard, thereby
removing the need to either attempt to extend the wire or buy a separate
long wire kit. Most standard length computer cables are too short to reach
the front wheel in Dark Side use if the computer is mounted on the bars, but
the Astrale's is more than adequate.

Hmm, quick Q here. If a tadpole, which wheel do you pick for the sensor
to go on?

Right. Not for any clever distance related reason, but because it's
nearest to where I would want to mount the display.

On a USS tadpole that will place it very close to the right handlebar;
however unless you fit something like an MTB bar-end to the top, USS
handlebars aren't that convenient for fitting displays to.

I run mine off the rear wheel, with the computers on the frame ahead of the
main cross joint thingy.
