Yes you can fit any pedals to the cranks, the folding part comes after the
fitting to the crank. I've just come back from Basel, Switzerland were we
used two L6 models to get around the city and further a field using their
local cycle paths. Make sure you don't need the telescopic seat pillar (try
one if you can) as I purchased mine without a test ride and went on a shops
advice that a standard Brompton Pillar would fit me. It didn't, so I had to
purchase the Telescopic Pillar at a higher cost than when you order it with
the bike. Also go for the lower gearing and get the Schwalbe Marathon Tyres.

That is to say, you can fit any type of pedal you want, but only the
supplied one will actually fold.

Go for the gearing most appropriate for where you intend to cycle it. In
Durham that means I have a low (12% reduced) option, the bike was original
fitted with the standard, high, option as it was purchased for the streets
of York.

You can fit any pedals and I have seen them fitted with SPD and the
like pedals. The folding pedal reduces the volume of the folded bike
a lot and is very useful for those using public transport a lot. If
the machine is to be used mostly for leisure then that is not so
important, though there are other machines that are better for
serious leisure use (to use a slightly odd phrase).

What do you want to do with it? The A to B Magazine and Folding
Society pages outline the strengths and weaknesses of the various
