North Road Ride???

Simple explanation: you were late. It leaves at 6:00 sharp. Next time
start chasing if you get there and there's noone around. You'll catch u
on a Mon/Wed/Fri. On a Tue/Thu you never will chase down the bunch

There's always someone there (even on New Years Day, I'm told)

It looks like you went out on Sunday morning. To the best of my
knowledge, the North Rd ride is only on weekdays. The bunch usually
leaves at 6:00 sharp.

One morning I arrived just after 6:00 to see flashing red lights
disappearing. I could only catch them with the assistance of another
late comer. In other words, don't be late!

Nah, I was out this morning (Monday). I figured I should have been able to
see them leaving in front of me, but couldn't.... will make sure I'm 5

I've always wondered if that was a club ride or something, I'm normally
going the other way when they whiz by on the other side.

Sounds like a blast, not sure if I could keep up laden down with my
panniers though.

Nah give it a miss. The 6.00 am ride is for lunatics. Try the old
man's ride that leaves at 5:45 am, same spot. Trundles down to Mordy
then it rolls good turns into St Kilda where a few guys will put up a
token sprint. Although you will have to remove the panniers........

Not an options unfortunately, my bike's my prime mode of transport.
Without the panniers there's no way I'd be able to carry the change of
clothes, laptop and food to work.

Guess I'll put it on the back burner 'till cycling becomes a sport
instead of a way of life ;-)

Erm, that's not to say that cycling's not a way of life for those for
whom it's a sport. Just that current circumstances dictate that Mon -
Fri I've got the good old panniers on the bike and there's not a lot I
can do about that.

Panniers won't be an issue, there's plenty of people who do the bunc
then ride to work afterwards carrying crumplers, backpacks, musettes an
panniers. You just might find it pretty damn hard on the Tue/Thu wit
them, unless you're extremely strong. Turn up, stay down the back an
see how you go
