See if you can get it working _off_the_bike_, move the magnet over the
sensor by hand, see if the display unit sees a signal. If that works
then there is something wrong with the placement on the bike.

Assuming you still aren't getting a signal - check the contacts the
computer has with the handlebar socket, often if it's very humid these
can corrode a bit... I used to shove my computer inside my glove, and
then drop all that into the helmet. The sweat still in the gloves
corrodes them awfully quickly. If this is the case you don't need to
*clean* them, just give it a rub with a bit of cloth.

Check you have any batteries installed correctly (correct polarity),
especially in the sensor.

I've seen some pickups where only a very precise spot on the sensor
actually worked with the magnet, the other 3/4 of the body was not
active - so if you don't have the magnet positioned *exactly* right
the reed switch never switches.

Of course the sensor/switch could be stuffed.
