time I've bunny hopped a snake. Both times I've been in the bush by
myself. The other time I did it the snake pulled it's head back
quickly as if it was a stretched rubber band that was suddenly
released.

The most experience I had with snakes was along the Southern Expressway
Bikeway (SA).
One Spring afternoon in 2002, from Marion (suburb) to McLarenVale and return.

Saw 4 brown snakes on the way down, and 2 on the way back.
The first was only small, about 1 mtr, and was happy to be on the
(semi-sealed) bikeway.
I got off the bike and waited for it to decide to move off the track.

The fourth one was bigger, about 1.5-2mtr and was pale/cream; probably
just molted.
Moved fast though, from one side of the track to the other just before I
got there.

The fifth one was a monster, about 2mtr. It moved quickly across the
track but it's tail end was still on the track while it's head was
moving off the other side. I was going too fast to even slow down, and
it readed-up as I tried to sort of bunny-hop over it (on a roadbike).

On the same track this year (autumn) I saw a rather large brown dog-turd
on the edge of the bikeway near O'Halloran Hill. Then the dog-turd
uncoiled and moved off to bushes on the left.

Someone should put up signage.

The Dugites were quite good I thought.
One of the first Australian bands to use a Fairlight CMI.
I may still have a cassette tape somewhere.
I think one of them was/became a lawyer?

On commuter rides a only a week apart last Feb, 2003, I twice saw Brown
Snakes on the Merri Creek (Northern Melbourne) path. I then
subsiquently screeched the cantilevers for months afterwards for sticks,
brown plastic bags, and shadows...

flick "Master & Commander" amongst many other things. Still quite a bus

Just for the record, attempting to get this thread back on track, as a
pedestrian, I saw two snakes today in inner suburbs of Melbourne. Both
high-tailed it back into the undergrowth.

I know the Southern Veloway / Willunga Rail Trail well. The asphalt on
this track is between 3.5 metres and 4.0 metres wide. If the snake you
saw, was indeed, longer than the track is wide, I think you were lucky
enough to see the rare and very shy Southern Montypythonoides.

From the Ben Hall Removalists --> Under the Road overpass --> down the
hill, before the rusty car wreck in the paddock, and before the track
turns. -- v.big brown snake. One of 6 THAT day. I'll go measure the
track next time I'm there, but it seemed to be the length of the
bitumen...whatever that is.
(I encourage ppl to walk their dogs off the leash here
too...particularly in Spring.)

There was on the track by the Reynella bypass where the retention dam is
in the middle of the 3 roads.
One across the track before the underpass where the Expressway ends.
One where the creek and dam is, behind the Primary school/skatepark
thingy. Seaford Rise?
One crossed the track towards the dump, just as you come out of a
railway cutting.
(Turn around at McLarenVale)
The monster crossed my path as I was coming downhill from Ben Hall
etc.and the underpass.

There was a 6th, but I cant remember now where I saw that one.
It was all a bit overwhelming, but I do remember telling a friend that
evening that I saw 6 snakes in one day..in one afternoon! And she said
....'yeah, whatever'.

Did you watch the aussie millenium celebrations?
The music for the Sydney (?) thing was done by
Iva. It's called "Ghost of Time" or something similar.
