  1. I'm suppose to be training hard on the bike for the Canberra Half
Ironman next month. Last month I picked up my milage and concentrated
more on hill work after hearing how hard the hills are at Canberra. Now
as a reward I have ITB pain that is stopping me from any worthwile
training on the bike. (obviously cant run either) Can anyone offer any
advice on what my help me get back to some serious bike training ASAP.
Anyone tried support straps/tapping etc for cycling (not running)

By the way I am stretching, icing and planning on a week off the bike
    this week.

    Thanks Garry

  2. Check out www.itbs.info - lots of useful info and links.

What has worked for me in the past is the usual stretching, plus
specific strengthening exercises, particularly for the gluteus medius.
Combined with easy riding on the bike, stopping the moment that the ITB
    felt uncomfortable.

Hi Tony, I should of said seeing/riding the hills in Canberra, which I
did hafter hearing about how tough they were. I was down in Canberra
the weekend of the 24hr MTB race and when there I rode over 80ks of the
90k course. Seeing & riding the course is why I picked up my K's and
    hill training.
    Thanks Garry

Hi Garry I'm glad that you have seen and ridden over the course all the
best in the race. By the way when is the race? All the best Tony 😎

Hi Nick, Thanks for the reply. What medius excersises are you doing? I
have been doing heaps of stretching, icing massage but not much specific
strengthening excersises. A PT told me months ago prior to my ITB prob
that I had weak medius compared to other muscles in that area, so I can
blame myself for not getting onto this. I'm sure if I do the right stuff
I'll get over this ITB prob no worries, but in the short term I'm still
keen to try and make it to Canberra in 4 weeks.

If anyone is interested I just found this really good site for specific
    excersises and stretching. http://www.exrx.net/

    Garry,
Do you know if you have 'flat feet' or not? I developed ITB pain/tightness
due to my feet rolling in and misalignment.
Orthotics have fixed this for me and now no pain (thats over 6 years ago
    now).
If you havent it may be worth seeing a podiatrist to check you over?

    best of luck
    Scotty
