  1. on my tour de melbourne last week i dropped past the nike shop in town and took notice of the huge tour display in the shop window and thought "lets have a look for a polka dot jersey". Found the rack of jerseys, looked good and then i looked at the price tag...180 bucks!!!

    are they taking the [censored]??

what would be the markup on this??, 1500%?

  2. It's not just Nike. Most major jersey and nicks "manufacturers" (nearly all made in China) will not pay more than US$8 - 10 for nicks and jerseys. One very big name refuses to pay more that US$6 for stuff that retails at well over AU$100

Cmon, in the name of freedom of info, let us know who the big name is?😄

In bicycling australia they had an article a few months ago where there was a report on a visit to a chinese factory that made bike components and many bike companies had their stuff all made in the same place. I read this with interest and got really upset when the reporter would not name the companies who had components made at the factory. Im sure the same stem, handlebars, etc are getting badged differently and then being priced at varying prices. Its a rort and its not like the general biking public isnt aware of whats going on, so why not name the companies??

    That's crazy.

I got an invite to a 50% off everything sale at that Nike store a couple of months ago. I thought, fantastic, I'll get some Nike Poggio's and a couple of jersey's. I went in to scope it out and they had nothing! The guy told me to come back when the TDF was on. I don't understand why in such a big cycling town like Melbourne, they don't stock gear all year. Surely they could dedicate a little corner to us?

Yeh!... might end my freedom... I'm close to the rag trade.

  6. fair enough, we all have to protect our livelihoods.
