When I push down on my SPD's it makes the rear tire spin. Is this normal?

When I push down on my SPD's it makes the rear tire spin. Is this normal?

Absolutely. If it wasn't normal, your bike wouldn't go anywhere when you
pedal.

Clearly there is something *very* wrong with your bike. The only time the
rear tyre should spin is when applying pressure to the brake levers (either
one.....doesn't matter which). When you push down on your SPD's, your seat
pole should raise and lower.
You need to take your bike back to the shop.

hmm, I was thinking the suttleflange is maladjusted.
A while back I saw a guy with a maladjusted suttleflange pedal backwards on
his fixed gear...and my gods...it moved backwards!!!! EGADS!!!!

Well, that certainly could be the case. I didn't mention it because it
seemed a little obvious though and I assumed he would have already checked
it.
Actually, something I didn't consider is that the seat pole spigot one-way
bearings may have been installed backwards, thus allowing the pedal force to
be transfered to the rear hub instead of the pole. Something else for him
to check anyway.....

by miles!!!)

I think you nailed it right there. He saw how much attention Muskie got
from his inane post and wanted a piece of the pie. I think, as a whole,
AMB comes up with some fairly interesting responses to these common
problems, though.

It's fixed now. It had to do with cleat adjustment and tire pressure.

I didn't think the backwards/forwards bit mattered with that as much as getting
it the right way up?

Oh hell yes.......if you get them backwards, it messes up the gyroscopic
precession of your hubs and everything......very nasty indeed!
