I finally ordered a seat cover (of sorts) for my Giant Revive. I saw this
material (Ventisit) at a recumbent fair last year in Tilburg, The
Netherlands which is a few minutes from my house. I tried in vain to buy
the material in bulk but could not.
I paid 60 Euros for a seat cover and attached it to my bike with plastic
ties. This material might be known as something else elsewhere. My wife
claims to have seen similar material sold in camping stores to be placed
under the mattress in your caravan to allow air underneath. It is pricey.
At any rate, I should give it a test today. I'm sure it will keep my back
dry as there is not so much compression from my back in a sitting
position. I am expecting the seat not to work as well as most of my
weight is there (in a sitting position).
I spoke with the guy who makes these seats and he will not sell the
material in bulk. He will only make seats, period. His command of
English is quite good so if you're interested send him an e-mail. He has
a full time job and just does this on the side. I'm just passing this on
and will follow up with a more detailed report after I've used this stuff
for a few days. I biked yesterday without it for about an hour and my
back and clothing was all sweaty. It was a typical spring day yesterday,
not hot, not cold, just cool enough for a very light jacket (or none).
