  1. Well, seems that my calling for trail work is with a rake. Three guys
ahead of me pruning away and me sweeping it all off to the side behind
them. A jovial group of guys to work with. One was 17, another was in
his mid 20's, the other in his 30's and me the old guy at 41. Still we
all shared a common interest and conversation wasn't lacking whilst we
    worked.

It was funny at the start when we were getting instructions. We were
told to break up into two groups that would head off in opposite
directions. Our group was given the proposed route first, and we kept
seeing the bosses finger moving along the trail, and moving, and moving,
and moving, until at one point one of us questioned "at what point do we
run into the other group coming towards us???" His finger had already
gotten about 4/5 of the way around the course...<grin>. There was a good
chuckle all round, especially from the other group, and we headed on our
    way.

Mosquitoes. We needn't have worried about the sunscreen, but the clouds
of mosquitoes were something else entirely! We were literally drenched
in a cornucopia of DEET containing products. (Good thing none of us
    smoked)

We went through a couple of sections that I'd cleared a couple of weeks
earlier, and I was pleased that not much extra work was required. Though
I did notice that racer types don't like ANY little twigs hanging down
out into the open... All the while I thought the chance of the odd
little clunk on the head was reason to keep more alert whilst out
riding... but what do I know?

After about two hours I was getting done in so I headed back to the
chalet and had some lunch with the guy that was doing the mowing. Those
poor racers are gonna be doing most of their descending on the hardpack,
and their climbing on the mowed grass clippings (brutal).

After that work was done they were heading out on a ride, whereas I
headed back into town. I'm assuming they all enjoyed the fruits of their
    labour...

Carla and I were the loppers on the last bit of work we did.... We
didn't have a following raker so we just kicked what we could to keep
things clear... We could have used your expertise!!!

Reminds me of a ride we did and I sprayed some DEET product on my helmet
    and it melted the plastic!!!

That does sound brutal... was that intended???

Not really. At least I don't think so. Just a nasty twist of fate
pertaining to how the loop actually came out. Sunday is suppossed to be
    sunny, for a change.
