Mongoose - Worth it?

Well, the general concensus when I asked exactly the same question recently
was that the Mongoose stuff is pretty ordinary. Looks good, but that's
about it. That was also the sentiment echoed by all the major bike shops I
spoke to before deciding on my Giant VT3. I suppose it depends on what sort
of treatment it's going to get. My Malvern Star Vertigo (AUD$320 when
purchased) managed to last in almost perfect condition while I was only
using it to ride to work on paved roads etc. The moment I started using it
out on the rough stuff though, it started to disintegrate. Horses for
courses I guess.

Buy your daughter a decent Hardtail bike,Mine has a Giant and loves it not
the greatest components but works great.Cheap bikes are cheap rides .Don't
get wrong don't buy her a 500$ bike but get her a nice bike .It will work
like a champ !! and she will like it.My Daughters bike cost 200$ or so and
it has given me no trouble in 2 years and I do all the work on my family
bike's ,
So save a few dollars in the long run and get her a decent bike /JMO.
PS keep her riding .Kids are great!!

What you save buying a [censored] bike you will have to pay in emergency room
bills when the thing falls apart while she is riding it. Double that
money and get her a bike that is built to be ridden from a quality bike
shop. Forget full suspension and look at hardtails only. You can't get
worthwhile FS on a budget.

Go and heft the damn thing. I bet it outweighs your daughter. A buddy of
mine bought one of those for his kid (about the same age) and the poor kid
couldn't ride it. It was just too heavy.

At that age, don't even buy a suspension bike at all. Buy a decent rigid
bike for $200 or even a bit more.

Also check out the amount of strength required to squeeze the brakes.
Many of the walmart bikes have about a 100# pull on those brake levers.
Kids just don't have the finger strength to work the brakes very long.

So.... Get a decent bike, with alloy rims, good brakes, decent shifter,
and forget the dime store [censored].

Don't do it. The only Mongoose is a Mongoose Pro.

Things from bike shops = bikes.
Things from -Marts = bicycle shaped toys.

Do you want to ride the bike, or goof around on two wheels? Go to a bike
shop, and don't "shred" trails: just ride them.

Mr. Shredder, next time you're on a trail try to view it as a woman.
Appreciate her long, slender, sexy lines. Then ask yourself should you
shred it..., or ride it?? Think about it.
