Single speed question

    O.K. so I have this old trek 820, and haven't been converted to the Mike V.
    way of thinking in fact I killed a mole on my last bike trip (Accidentally
    squashed its head under my NRS tire) 🙁. Well, back to my question... would
    it be ultra expensive to make this bike a single speed, the only thing
    physically broken is the fork (which I wanted a rigid fork for anyway), and
    the brakes.

    If it will not cost me a small fortune (keep in mind I work for the Air
    Force), what would I need and who sells it (the LBS are a little pricy at
    time)

    The latest issue of Bicycling mag. had an article on how
    to do so, and where to order the parts, and how much it
    would cost.

    Rear sprocket $5 (See if LBS will give you some free spacers)
    Chain tensioner (if needed) $20-50

    The feeling of elation as you pass all the riders on geared bikes on a climb... Priceless.

    to do so, and where to order the parts, and how much it
    would cost.

    Don't listen to the crappy ragazines. All they want to do is sell
    advertising space. Why else would anyone give a good review to santa
    crud, crapandflail and all of the other cookie-cutter [censored] whilst
    mostly ignoring well made bicycles?

    Actually I take what these mags say with a grain of salt
    too. However, this particular article was factual, which is
    what I filter when I read them...

    You can convert that 820 for next to nothing....and love it.
