when my wife put some whole but cut up green beans that came out of a can in the microwave to heat up for my son, something quite interesting happened.
after about 20 seconds, they started to spark. kind of like when you put metal in an old microwave years ago. So, what is it about green beans that makes them spark? Personally, I found the whole phenomenon quite cool but I'm uncertain why this particular food item would create that kind of behavior when subjected to the microwaves during the heating process. So, anybody with more knowledge in this area care to enlighten me?

It's like pickled gherkins (or just pickles to you americans) and grapes. They glow in a similar fashion to a neon light.

thanks. the grape reference above was also quite interesting. never would have thought about it. interestingly enough, mashed up green beans in the form of baby food does not spark so it's just the whole ones.
