bar ends?

I kept brushing against trees and knew one day one would grab bad, so
they were history. I don't miss them.

What he said. I find them very useful on long hill climbs, and to find a
more aerodynamic position to get those miserable road rides out of the
way quickly.

Put the longer curved ones on. Then they won't catch and if you do
brush a tree, it won't be any skin off your knuckles.

A mate of mine has two stubbies sited *inside* his grips & controls,
as a very light 'aero' device for the unavoidable roadwork & fireroad

My old old bike is a KHS Comp which I bought from a friend, he had cut the
bars shorter, about an inch off each side, It was noticeable at times esp
since I am a big guy. I learned to live with it though.

Since I bought my new old bike and it has a standard handlebar, the world is
a better place again.

A standard joke we have always had between our riding group was that when
you're riding alot you might tend to notice when other people don't set up
their bikes correctly. Most common flaw is seat too low, but I always get a
chuckle when folks have their bar ends pointed up on a 45 deg ree angle or
even higher. They're usually cheap bikes too.

I find it especially painful to see people pedalling too slowly.
