I don't have any experience whatsoever with m.b. parts, so...
I am planing to get my fiance a Thudbuster seatpost for her TREK 4300. These seatposts come in 26.8mm, 27.2mm and 30.9mm diameters. The original seatpost says it's 29.2 mm. What do I do? If I get a 27.2 post, is there a way to make it fit?
General question: can a Thudbuster seatpost serve as a poor man's solution to reduce butt pain when riding a hardtail, as opposed to spending $1500+ on a full suspendion bike? I understand that a Thudbuster on a hardtail will not feel as a good as a real FS bike, but...
Thank you in advance. Yeah... could please post your replies here?

most bike shops can order in special shims to compensate for the varying diameter discrepencies. I had to do the same thing when I put a suspension seat post on my hubby's bike.

As Penny said, you can buy shims.

It does help some, and allows you to stay seated over some rough sections where you'd usually have to stand. Just not some of the really rough stuff that you could sit through on an FS.

Nor does it "substitute" an FS. The idea behind an FS is that the rear wheel stays on the ground while going over bumps - the comfort ride is a by-product of this. So a suspension seat post will probably provide the comfort of an FS, but NOT the purpose.

Thanks! Well, at this point comfort is the most important thing. Glad to hear that the seatpost I want does seem to help in that respect.

Allright, will look for the shims locally! Just ordered a 27.2 mm Thudbuster.
