Myth? Fashion? Don't know, but when I'm busting a gut on a road climb, and keeping ground contact with my front wheel is not an issue (like on a steep mountain bike climb), I sit up.
I don't imagine the width would make a difference, but usually the wider bars are risers. Does the riser bar make the steeper climbs more difficult?
I put some big risers on my cruiser bike, and it really does feel wierd having the flat bars on my MTB. I'm thinking about smaller risers. I just don't want to make the extended climbs any harder than they already are!
