I figured if I said that, some old-timer would retort that traffic was
much nicer/kinder than it is now, people didn't have cellphones,
cyclists had to ride uphill both ways, etc. <g>

All those things are true, except the riding uphill both ways. The point is,
the principles for dealing with it are the same.
