  1. I am sure this has been asked many times but seriously -
What gets you over the sore bums, sore [censored] bits, chaff, etc etc and so
    forth.
I wear good bike pants, have regularly done 100km/day rides, I ride most
days up to 30kms and still have my sore bum! LOL (am a female). Do you ever
    get over it????
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Ta.

  2. I would get some advice from a good LBS, re your seat, & change it if it
is not suitable, I have used a Flite for the last 6yrs with no problems.

Also check the set up ie amount of weight on hands etc.

There were a couple of female specific artices in Australian cycling
    last year on set up.

If I get a sore bum I use savlon, for chafing....

    hope this helps

As I presume you are posting from aus.bicycle, go to Womens Cycling on
    Cycling Forums for plenty of threads with answers for you;

Plenty of advice here, as a female cyclist, I highly recommend a Serfas
style saddle, plus please ensure you are fitted to your bike correctly.
    Hope this helps. 😉

IME, there are two types of "sore":

    (1) "sore" like you're the one-legged man (or woman) at the [censored]-kicking
convention, which has the following possible causes:
    (a) you *are* at an [censored]-kicking convention
    (b) your saddle is the wrong shape => new saddle
    (c) your position is bad => change posn (see cfsmtb's post)
    (d) you are new to riding => ride more
    (e) some combo of the above
    (g) inability to use the alphabet

    (2) "sore" because the skin in your crotch is erupting like a teenager's
face, which also has a few possible causes:
    (a) you have a teenager's face in your crotch
    (b) you don't wash your knicks properly (at all?) between rides
    (c) you stand/sit around in your knicks after rides
    (d) you don't lube your crotch before rides with chamois cream
(Assos is good, about $25 a pot)
    (e) you don't stand on the pedals periodically to let the blood flow
around the crotch (there's that word again) area - this is called
    ischemic something or other
    (f) you have some source of friction on your crotch like a seam in your
clothes (which is why knicks are good), a lump in your saddle, etc.

Confusingly, people say "saddle sore" when they mean either kind of
sore, but usually "I'm a bit saddle sore" means type (1), whereas "I
have a saddle sore" means type (2), and a hot bath, allegedly.

These are just general points about seats and position. What works for
one person won't necessarily work for others.

    1. Make sure your saddle is at the correct height. If it's too low,
you'll be putting your full body weight on your bum. Ideal position
is approximately where you can just touch your pedal at it's lowest
    position with your heel.

    2. Similarly, if your handlebars are too high, all your weight will be
carried by your bum. Try dropping your handlebars a little (unless
of course you're getting sore hands).

    3. Saddle width matters, and not always in the way that you think. Many
women prefer a _slightly_ wider saddle than a typical mens saddle.
However, don't go overboard. The saddle should fit your "sit bones"
neatly, without going up between them (painful) and without rubbing
on your thighs (not painful at first but agony after a hundred km or
so). Saddle covers are a gimic that just increases the chance of
chafing, as are gell bits (IMHO).

    4. Good quality knicks are a must, and never wear them twice without
washing them. I occasionally chuck some Canesten in the wash water
with mine to kill any bugs.

    5. Ride lots. Your bum will harden up in time.

    Hope that's been of help.

    Regards,

    Suzy

Canesten rocks. It's a mild dissinfectant, available in the washing
    powder isle in yer soopermarket.

    Heya,
Saddles and so on aside, I find that a nappy-rash baby cream called
"Am-O-Lin" (originally "almond + oil + lanolin", but it also contains
calamine, salicylic acid [aka aspirin] and zinc oxide) soothes and fixes
    up (my 200 km a week) Boy-Bits.
Anecdotally, it also works for Secret Womens' Bits-ness... :-)
