    I think it's toes down - but I then can't tiptoe the ground when I stop and stay on the saddle. I can't set off yet without being on the saddle again, so to stop knee problems I currently cycle in a heels-down position.

    I think it helps that I used to ride horses, so I'm used to heels-down. I am noticing now I'm cycling more/harder/longer that my feet prefer heel-down less now, so I suspect there's maybe some tightening of the back of the legs going on - quite how I'm going to overcome this I'm not sure, cos I can't raise the saddle yet...

    All the cyclists I see point the toes down (well, all the serious ones anyway, rather than the utility ones I see pushing far too big a gear at wobbling dangerously slowly speeds...) so I've always assumed toes down is the way to go eventually.

  3. lots of threads on this....everyone has a preference. One is no "better" than the other.
