Ok after riding seriously for over a year I decided a computer would help my training. So I went and got this computer, got a wired one because I don't trust wireless, and it has cadence too. It was great for about a week, maybe longer. Now it just doesn't register most of the time. The magnet needs to be within what seems like millimeters to register correctly. First it's hard to get things that close in any case, second the hardware doesn't fit my chainstays (rear mounted because of the cadence thing).
Question: What computer is 100% (at least 98%) reliable for speed, elapsed time and distance, I'm really getting fed up with these tempermental computers.
I've been using a Cateye Astrale for about 5 years, and the only problems I've had is it occasionally stops recording in heavy rain. This problem goes away after drying the contacts. Otherwise no problems, haven't even had to change the battery.

I haven't actually measured it but I think the wheel magnet is about 5-7 mm away from the sensor. I don't know how far away it could go and still record. And yes you can buy replacement magnets at most bike stores.
