wheels used tuesday?

  1. I was looking at the AP picture of Lance and teamate on
    tuesday's stage, and it looks like they are NOT riding the
    usual bontrager race x-lite wheels.... does the team switch
    for rough pavement, or have they switched for all races and
    I just haven't notice before this?

    They switch wheels all the time, depending upon conditions.
    Virtually all are Bontrager of some sort, with the exception
    of the HED wheels they use up front for time trials.

    USPS team manager Johan Bruyneel specifically stated before the start of the stage that the team used different wheel/tire setup due to the cobblestone sections. Ultra lightweight wheels and skinny tires tend to take a beating on the cobbles. Virtually all of the teams at least went to a different tire (wider) in anticipation of these sections, and in some cases switched wheels as well.
