Does no-one here think that the meat industry is sitting
back and counting it's dollars with glee, now that low-carb
has hit the mainstream? Don't kid yourself. There's a money-
making venture behind every diet fad that comes down the
pike. Painting low-carb as if it were some kind of "fight
the power" thing is just laughable.

Actualy there is a huge difference between meat/dairy
industry and eddible oils/food processing industry. The
latter being extremely more proffitable and more
consolidated in power and wealth therefore better
orginized and standing to lose or gain more. The meat
and dairy industry is extremely decentralized compared
to the powerful and consolidated edible oils industry.
There are many smaller enteties in controll of the
wealth and power, however much there even is. This
results in far less profit and orginization and
ultimately far less power and influence.

Well, you know, there is much less profit involved in
meat/veggies production, as it is much less processed.

To generate profit, you need to add value and do it in large
scale. You need to differentiate. You need brands.

That is just my opinion, of course.

There is a lot more money to make when you take corn or
wheat at a few cents a bushel, cook the daylights out of
it, suck all the nutrition out of it, extrude it into
strange and odd air-filled shapes, add coloring and cheap
sugar to it, package it into attractive colorful boxes,
market it straight to children and sell it for 5 or 6 bucks
    for a few ounces.

Actually thay are the same. Now that ConAgra owns Montfort,
Miller's and Armour, and Tyson owns Iowa Beef Packers, it's
all just one big happy family.

Do not forget spraying a few cents worth of synthetic

Yeah, they remove all of the 23 important nutrients, then
spray on 6 of the cheapest vitamins available and call it
    "enriched".

BTW, speaking about it, we have probably missed that there
is already kind of low-carb conspiracy as well.
Manufacturers of highly processed low carb [censored] pay to
Atkins Nutritionals and Atkins Foundation pays for research.

Interesting point is that once again, it is about processed
    [censored] that brings profit.

Exactly, this is one of the main problems I have with
atkins. While he has done a great service in pointing
out the dangers of refined carbs to the ignorant public
he has spewed out a horde of dangerous processed
garbage. The best conclusion I can come up with as to
the reason is that he understands that Americans will be
reluctant to give up their refined carbs so he is trying
to supply low carb alternatives in the belief that it is
the lesser of two evils. the profit factor of course
plays a role in it as well.

It is just another example of how the human diet has
changed so drasticly in the last 100 years. We went from
eating carbs (whole wheat, fresh plants/fruits), fats
(lard, beef tallow, cream) , protein (meat), in their
whole unrefined form from whole natural foods to eating
refined processed carbs (flower, sugar), fats (vegetable
oils, trans fats), protein (isolated protein powders).
All man made man altered and refined into nutritionaly
empty fake foods that have never exist in nature and
have never existed in the human diet until recently.
They are not designed to support life but to enhance
marketability, durability, and profitability. I would
like to see someone try and live on a diet of white
bread, corn oil, margarine, sugar and protein powder
with a handful of synthetic vitamis added (basicly one
of those fake meal bars) compared to someone eating real
food like whole wheat, butter, cream, veggies, fruit,
and animal protein/fats with all the natural
bioavailable vitamins and 60+ trace minerals required
for optimal human health and reproduction.
