I'm hearing a lot of complaints from pool owners who are
having a hard = time maintaining a free chlorine residue. If
you're having a time of it = too I have a suggestion. Add
slow dissolving tabs to your pump filter = basket instead of
to your (I assume you are using one) auto chlorinator. =
When the pump starts add about 3/4 cup of liquid shock at
the skimmer. = These two types of chlorine carriers will
cancel out the up or down = swing of your total alkalinity
immediately instead of at the time you = shock, and your pH,
if it was OK before, should remain stable too. Hayward auto
chlorinators, in concept, are good. But just the slightest =
air leak will cause the water in the canister to syphon out
when the = pump shuts off. This in turn leaves the tabs
inside high and (almost = dry). For the slow tabs to be
effective they should be constantly = immersed in water so
while the pump is not running chlorine and water = make a
good solution and then be metered out during the pump's =
operation.
Having the tabs so close and confined versus having them in
a skimmer = farther away from the pump does present a
problem because chlorine is = acidic and corrosive. But
instead of the usual 3 or more tabs you would = use at any
given load, try just one tab and don't forget to use the =
liquid shock.
